Google Analytics is free and powerful — which is exactly why most owners open it twice and give up. Forget the hundreds of reports; these five numbers tell the whole story.
1. Where visitors come from
The acquisition report: organic search, direct, social, referrals. This tells you what works. If you pay for ads and see no traffic from them — the money goes nowhere.
2. Which pages get visited
The usual surprise: the most visited page is rarely the one you designed as the main one. That is a signal WHERE to put your contact buttons and offers.
3. Mobile versus desktop
For most local businesses 60-80% of traffic is mobile. If the mobile view is an afterthought — you are losing the majority. This number ends internal debates.
4. Conversions (the most important)
Visits are not the goal — messages, calls and orders are. Set up events for: contact form sent, phone click, completed order. Without this, analytics is cloud watching.
5. Where they leave
If 70% leave from the pricing page — the prices or the way you present them are the problem. If they leave at the cart — something in checkout is in the way. Those are the points where money leaks.
What is not worth watching
Average time on page and bounce rate in GA4 are easy to misread. Do not make decisions on them; decide on conversions.
Together with Search Console
Analytics tells you what PEOPLE do on the site; Search Console tells you how GOOGLE sees you (which terms you appear for, how many click). Both together, once a month, 20 minutes — that is enough.
For our clients: Analytics, Search Console and conversion setup are part of the build.
